ONE WILD WEEKEND
Wine, poker, lingerie and a very patient set of German parents.
Some shoots begin with a call sheet. This one ended up feeling more like we had accidentally stepped into a slightly chaotic European summer film.
Jasmin came down to Rojales with her stylist, Femke, and what was meant to be a shoot quickly turned into a full weekend experience shared between Jasmin, Femke, my girlfriend, myself, and a German friend whose family home became our location.
Femke wasn’t just styling the shoot either. She brought pieces from Nuit de Femme, her own lingerie brand based in The Netherlands, and the pieces fitted the mood of the weekend perfectly. She also kindly let us photograph her in some of her own designs, which made everything feel even more personal. It’s a really beautiful up-and-coming label and definitely one to keep an eye on.
The best part was that the shoot never really felt separate from the weekend.
We spent the days heading to the beach, swimming at sunset, eating together and just enjoying being in Spain. At night, things usually ended with too much wine and some kind of game around the table.
One night that became poker.
LINGERIE, WINE & POKER
This was when we found out Femke had worked at a casino.
Suddenly what was meant to be a casual game turned into a very serious lesson, with my girlfriend getting taught how to play properly by someone who actually knew what she was doing. The rest of us mostly drank wine, pretended we understood the rules and slowly realised Femke had an unfair advantage.
The main shoot took place at my German friend’s parents’ house. They had recently retired and moved to Rojales for exactly the kind of life you imagine when you think of southern Spain — sunshine, long summers, quiet mornings and a bit of peace.
Then we arrived.
For most of the day Jasmin was moving around the house, the pool, the showers and the garden, sometimes in lingerie and sometimes wearing considerably less.
Meanwhile, my friend’s parents were outside building a shed.
Every so often they would come around a corner or walk past a window and suddenly realise that another part of their retirement home had become a nude photoshoot.
Nobody really knew where to look.
They handled the entire thing like absolute legends and somehow became some of the best hosts I have ever had on a shoot. They were so welcoming to Jasmin and Femke, and every day huge amounts of food appeared on the table. Breakfast became lunch, lunch became dinner, and there always seemed to be another plate coming out of the kitchen.
A SHOOT THAT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE ONE
We came to make photographs and somehow ended up eating like kings.
That relaxed atmosphere probably explains why the photos feel the way they do. There wasn’t much pressure, no big production energy and no feeling of rushing through a schedule. We were all just living together for a few days, swimming, drinking, eating and shooting whenever the light and mood felt right.
Jasmin made that incredibly easy.
She is one of the easiest models I have photographed to date. She has this very warm, soft and welcoming energy — almost like a Mamma Mia! host who somehow makes everyone feel instantly at home — but behind that softness she is also very strong-minded, switched on and has a great business sense.
There was never much forcing of a photograph.
She could walk into a room, sit on the edge of the bed or disappear into the pool and suddenly the image was already there.
By the end of the weekend, it didn’t really feel like we had completed a shoot.
It felt like we had all briefly lived inside one.
A house in Rojales. Sunset swims. Too much wine. Poker lessons. Femke’s lingerie. Huge family feasts. A German couple quietly trying to build a shed while a naked Dutch woman wandered around their swimming pool.
And somewhere amongst all of that, we managed to make these photographs.
